Office of the Registrar
Minutes of the Board of Governors
Present: Altenwerth (Chair), Pruitt, Ostrowski, Haas, Kettering, and two Governors who have asked not to be named. Recording: Tilley, Registrar.
- The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
- Ms. Tilley read into the record a memorandum from Dr. Elmer V. Spooner of the Council requesting three corrections to the 2020 citation. One enclosure.
- On the founding date: the memorandum states that the Society was formed on 14 November 1878 and the Council was incorporated in 1989, that these are different bodies, and that the distinction has been the subject of two internal reviews. Dr. Pruitt said this explained the footnotes.
- On the phrase “goblin research”: Ms. Haas reported that the Academy’s notification letter had used the lowercase form, which the Council does not. The reasons are in Terminology Review 7-B/1998, enclosed. Ms. Haas has apologized to the Council in writing, using the capital letter.
- The Board agreed to place the corrections under review. Ms. Tilley asked how long the review would run. The Chair said as long as it needed to. Carried.
- Mr. Ostrowski reported that the certificate had been sent to the Council’s bulletin office in Bethlehem rather than to Dr. Spooner’s home, as requested, and that its receipt had been logged.
- Mr. Kettering asked whether the correction request was a reconsideration of a previous decision. Ms. Tilley said it was a request for amended wording. Mr. Kettering asked whether it could be treated as a reconsideration in spirit. The Chair said no, and thanked him for asking.
The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
C. Tilley, Registrar
