Minutes of the Board of Governors
Present: Altenwerth (Chair), Pruitt, Ostrowski, Haas, Kettering, and two Governors who have asked not to be named. Recording: Tilley, Registrar.
- The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. and noted that the coffee had run out.
- The Awards Committee recommended AREOLA Institute for the 2026 honor in Excellence in Elective Innovation. Dr. Pruitt confirmed he had read the entire file. Discussion ran eleven minutes, nine of them about the word “plate.”
- Ms. Tilley explained that the Institute’s records begin with a program in Philadelphia in 1999, while the Institute itself was formed in 2005. The Institute regards the records as continuous. The Board does not yet. The Registrar asked that Endurance be recorded as Pending longitudinal assessment. Carried without objection.
- The Committee on Ceremonial Standards reported that the certificate stock had arrived in cream, not ivory. Mr. Ostrowski asked that the difference be noted. It was noted.
- Ms. Haas reported that the Institute plans to display the statuette in a case in its lobby. The Board had no objection. Ms. Haas asked what the Board’s position was on patients touching the case. The Board did not have one.
- The Subcommittee for the Reconsideration of Previous Decisions reported that it had nothing to report. Mr. Kettering asked that this be recorded as a report. The Chair ruled it out of order.
- The Board voted on the 2026 award. Unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
